Plastic TOC PF Invitational ONLINE

2020 — Discord, KY/US

WELCOME TO THE FIRST ONLINE PLASTIC TOC!

There will be prefs, there is no entry fee, and you don’t have to bring your own judge. Coaches can enter to debate and students are allowed to judge. We only offer PF. Please follow the deadlines for registration and judge additions, both of which can be seen on the right.

The tournament will be held entirely on Discord.

Debaters from the same team will be able to hit each other in prelims, because formal school names are not mandatory, get creative!

We will be using the NSDA Jan 2020 PF Topic.

Recommendations:

In order to keep the tournament running smoothly, there will be text channels in each room to send speech docs. Please use them so that audio issues and evidence exchanges don't create significant delays.

Have a third person or judge available for coinflips, feel free to do this however you want.

Competitor Guidelines

ZERO TOLERANCE for harassment and violence to anyone in the room. If it happens once, you will be immediately removed from the tournament. This includes being aggressive if 'post-rounding' or asking judges about their decisions. Feel free to ask smart, pertinent questions but if you are rude to the point where a judge has to report it to tab you will be dropped.

Adults: Feel free to compete even if you have graduated/coach other schools.

TOC-Qualled Competitors: Please compete! Gold and silver bids aren't good enough to qualify to the prestigious Plastic TOC but we can make an exception.

**As a student judge, if you feel uncomfortable judging a coach or graduated student, let tabroom know and we will change out the judges ASAP**

Progressive Argumentation:

This is a tournament hosted for our mentees to gain an experience similar to national circuit tournaments, please debate accordingly and avoid unrealistic starts that would never be viable at real tournaments. You will not be punished and we will not police the form of arguments you wish to read but please keep this in mind. We are not taking a stance on whether progressive argumentation is good or bad for debate and in large part condone it but we encourage everyone to keep the tournament as realistic as possible.

Judging Guidelines

Feel free to disclose orally, write short ballots. Make sure to hit start round as soon as the round starts and submit your ballot within the time limit so tab doesn't have to chase you down. You are NOT required to orally disclose but we encourage it and

You can assign speaker points up to tenths. Please do not give 30's to all competitors and feel free to take your time in making decisions, we have assigned ample amounts of time to make a decision that you should be satisfied with.

Prefs/ MPJ

Will release prefs the Wednesday before the competition date, please turn them in before Friday. You are not required to fill out a pref sheet but it is advantageous to do so. They will open Wednesday 11:59 PM and close Thursday at 11:59 PM.

Rules

This tournament will use all NSDA rules for competition standards and NDCA PF Wiki guidelines for disclosure
