Greetings Kentucky Speech Coaches & Competitors!

On behalf of the Johnson Central High School Speech Team, we invite you to attend the 2nd annual Johnson Central “Welcome to Candy Land” Junior Division Invitational Speech Tournament.

The tournament will be held on Saturday, January 25th, 2020, at Johnson Central High School in Paintsville, KY. Registration will begin at 7:15 AM with the first round of competition beginning at 8:30 AM. There will be two rounds of IE and finals in each event.

EVENTS: We will be offering all twelve KHSSL Junior Speech events (FOLLOWING KHSSL RULES).

NOTE: Any category that cannot fulfill a minimum of 6 entries may be dropped from the competition – you will be notified of this change in the event that this occurs to allow you time to relocate your students to another event should you so choose.

ENTRIES: We will be offering unlimited entries for each event. Students may Quadruple (Compete in up to 4 IE events) but rounds cannot be held for a late performer.

Cost: Each IE speech entry will be $5, with Duo Acting, Duo Interp, & Improv Duo charging $10.

Registration: Entry registration will be managed through www.tabroom.com. You will need to create a user account at that site if you do not have one in order to register.

Deadline for entries is 5:00 PM on Wednesday, January 22nd. *Drops/changes/adds after the deadline will be charged a $10 fee per single entry & $20 per Duo Interp & Improv Duo team.

Judges: You must supply one judge for every six I.E. entries (6 slots = 1 judge; 12 slots = 2 judges; 13 slots = 3 judges; etc.) A fee of $40 per missing judge will be assessed. Please make sure that all your judges are familiar with all KHSSL rules in the 2019-2020 KHSSL Handbook so they can properly assess the students. There will be a hospitality room with snacks and refreshments for all judges, coaches, and bus drivers.

Awards: Given to the top six entrants per speech event.

Sweepstakes: Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top three schools.

Speech Schedule:

Registration: Front Office: 7:15 AM to 8:00 AM

Round I: 8:30 AM to 10:15 AM (Ext Draw 8:00 AM)

Round II: 10:15 AM to 12:00 PM (Ext Draw 9:45 AM)

Finals: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (Extemp and Radio Draw 12:45 PM)

Awards: Cafeteria immediately following Finals.

Food: Pizza, snacks, and refreshments will be for sale in the cafeteria. There will be no lunch/dinner break due to the tight schedule of the tournament. So eat when you can!!! There are fast food places near also!
