Inland Online Big Questions Tournament

1st Inland Empire Big Questions Invitational

January 4, 2020 8:00am-4:15pm

The Inland Empire Speech and Debate District is hosting a Big Questions weekday tournament all online!!! Come pilot the online debate process with us. Practice your Big Questions cases before your district's NSDA national qualifier. Entries from all over are welcomed (high school and middle school). 

All competitors, judges, and observers are asked (begged) to complete the online survey after competition. http://www.speechanddebate.org/big-questions-survey

Location: ONLINE through free ZOOM application

          All competitors and judges must have access to reliable Wi-Fi, a device with a microphone and webcam, the free ZOOM application, and a quiet place to debate. A link to our tournament web conference will be posted before the tournament.

Registration:

Opens December 16 at 8 am and closes January 1 at 5pm. This tournament is capped at 20 entries (each entry may be 1 or 2 people).

Judge entry deadline: January 3 at 3pm

Drops and name changes may be made online up to January 3 at 3 pm.

Events: Big Questions Debate (solo or partnered teams). Maximum of 20 “teams”.

          Topic: Objective Morality Exists

Costs: No entry fees. Fines will occur for lack of judges or judges missing rounds.

 Judge Requirements: 1 Judge for Every 2 Debate Teams. The tournament will be run 100% online. All judges must have a linked tabroom.com account before registering. You are responsible for having judges available all day, even if your team does not advance to later rounds. 

Awards: Trophies for 1st- 3rd Places will be delivered either in person at a future tournament or mailed.

Schedule:

4 rounds guaranteed for all competitors. Random pairings. If there are 5-8 teams we will run a round robin all rounds. Otherwise QF-F will be powermatched. 

   8:00 am Judge and Competitor Meeting

·       8:30 am: Round 1

·       9:30 am: Round 2

·       10:30 am: Round 3

·       11:30 am: Round 4

·       12:30 pm: Lunch Break

·       1:00 pm: QF round (if needed)

·       2:00 pm: SF round

·       3:00 pm Final round

·       4:15 pm: Awards.

    If we do not have a minimum of 10 students (partnerships count as 2) the tournament will be canceled).
