Georgetown College Tournament

2020 — Washington, DC/US

Tournament Packet

1) Registration/Payment.

Please mark your school onsite on Tabroom as soon as you are in D.C. or know that everyone is going to make it. Please e-mail me any changes.

As a reminder, you can pay by credit card here (additional fee applies to each person): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/georgetown-college-policy-debate-tournament-tickets-84743605405

You can also pay by check or cash sometime during the tournament. Checks should be made out to Georgetown University.

2) Buildings and parking.

The tournament will be held entirely in the ICC building, also known as the Bunn Intercultural Center.

Campus map available here: https://maps.georgetown.edu/

If taking Uber/Lyft/etc., the address is 3700 O St. NW, and the ICC is roughly a 3-minute walk from that address, which takes you to the front gates.

If driving, you should use 3611 Canal Rd. NW as the address. This will take you to the Southwest parking garage. This is about a 5-minute walk from the ICC (you'll enter at the back/on the ground floor; the atrium where food will be served is the 3rd floor). The daily parking rate is $25 for Friday, but the garage will be open/free on Saturday and Sunday.

3) Judges — rounds off

For other places in “D.C. proper,” if you have some time on your hands or want to make an excursion, ask someone who gets out more.

Georgetown

Coffee

Listed roughly in order of distance from campus.

Starbucks

Leavey Center, 3800 Reservoir Rd., Washington, DC

On campus.

Saxby’s

3500 O St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Super close to campus, serviceable, don’t drink the cold brew.

Peet’s

3299 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007

BK wanted this included. Definitely kicks Starbucks in the face.

High-quality, national chain.

Ezra’s favorite.

Baked & Wired

1052 Thomas Jefferson St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Bit of a hike from campus, but great coffee and excellent pastries (for a good time, start up a fight on the cupcakes at Baked & Wired vs. Georgetown Cupcake).

Nicer/More Fun

Curry & Pie

1204 34th St NW, Washington, DC 20007

A Georgetown Debate favorite --- Indian/pizza fusion, which sounds weird, but is delicious. The place is tiny, so if getting food for a larger team you will probably want to do take-out.

The Tombs

1226 36th St NW, Washington, DC 20007

A divey Georgetown institution. I don’t know, it’s a dive bar that serves food. Fortunately, the undergrads are out of town.

El Centro

1218 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007

Ezra used to go to happy hour here every Wednesday. Pretty good Mexican, great frozen margaritas.

The Sovereign

1206 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007

John Turner’s favorite place in Georgetown. French/Belgian food with a beer-snob-approved draft list.

Farmers Fishers Bakers

Huge menu (both food and drinks).

1789

A fancy place that I’m assured is good, and it’s super close to campus.

Filomena Ristorante

1063 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007

Another fancy place that I’m told is good.

Mexican, recommended by BK, who is discerning.

Bars

Continental Beer Garden

1901 North Fort Myer Drive, @ the corner of N Moore & 19th St, Arlington, VA 22209

Right next to the Holiday Inn; supposed to be pretty good.

Has something for everyone.
