After a unforeseen circumstances the Bay family have been working very hard to provide you with new venues that provide the same comfort and convenience as Cypress Bay! I apologize as I know this change is an inconvenience to some. We will do our best to accommodate any issues that arise from this and wave any drop fees in the event that you have to remove your school from the tournament. 

After Saturday, ALL competitors and Judges will return to the Host Site.

2019 The Tradition @ Cypress Bay

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Cypress DeBAYte Team, we cordially invite you to attend the 8th Annual INTERNATIONAL Tradition Tournament to be held at Cypress Bay High School in beautiful Weston, FL on Saturday and Sunday November 9th and 10th  (with Round Robins in PF, Congress, Extemp, and Oratory/Info on Friday, October 8th). The Cypress DeBAYte Team promises to continue our tradition of top-notch competition, exceptional judging, friendly hospitality, and a new fun theme! The tournament will recognize the top novice in each event as well as offer all NSDA main events, and impromptu. We have retained TOC Bids in PF (Quarterfinals), LD (Finals), Congress (Finals), Speech and in Policy (Finals). We encourage you to come see if you can survive the Florida sun with us. Bottom-line: There’s not a better place to be in November! 

Deadlines/Entries: All entries are due by Wednesday October 30th, at 5:00pm, but we are expecting registration to fill-up much sooner so register ASAP! Fees will be frozen at that time. Any drops after that date will be accessed a $25 drop fee. After October 31st, you will forfeit the entry fee. If you drop any events or entries the day of, or do not report a drop, you will be charged the entry fee plus an additional $75. A school may enter 5 entries in PF and LD, 10 entries in Congress and all IEs, and unlimited entries in Policy. If you have more students you would like to enter, please do so and they will be moved off of the waitlist depending on space. *Due to Construction, space is much more limited than years prior*

Fees:

$100 per Round Robin entry. 

$100 Policy & PF Debate team

$50 LD Entry

$50 Congressional Debate Entry

$50 per individual event entry

($10 for double entry)

 

$15 Novice Congress (Saturday only)


We will waive entry fees for UDL schools

Judging Requirement:

1 judge for every 2 Policy/PF/LD entries or fraction thereof

1 judge for every 5 IE/Congress entries or fraction thereof

We strongly recommend you provide your own qualified judges for each event. We are only able to hire a very limited number of judges. For every uncovered judge you will be charged $150; uncovered policy debate judges will be charged $200. Any rounds missed by judges from your school, will result in an additional $50 fee per round. It is not our goal to make a profit from missed rounds; however, having present/competent judges is vital to running a successful tournament.

Meals: We will provide exceptional lunch and dinner for the students on Saturday. Lunch for purchase at delicious Food Trucks, and breakfast items (along with many other goodies) will be available for purchase throughout the tournament at our concession stand. Judge meals are included with the cost of entrees (breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday). There WILL be a vegetarian option for students and judges on both. Please e-mail Ms. West if there are additional dietary restrictions for anyone attending from your school.

Lodging: Room blocks will be available at The Courtyard Marriot in Weston (2000 N Commerce Pkwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33326) and The Home 2 Suites by Hilton in Miramar (2800 SW 149th Ave, Miramar, FL 33027). Updated information can be found under the “lodging” side menu option on Tabroom.

Resolutions/Topic Areas: We will be using the November/December topic in PF and LD. Congress legislation and Impromptu, Extemp topic areas will be posted no later than October 25th. Congress Chambers will be posted November 4th. Congress legislation is due by Monday, October 21st at 5:00pm. Please email legislation to nick.montecalvo@browardschools.com with the subject as “Legislation.”

POLICY

 *We will be using the Novice Packet with the allowance of CP's and K's* 

Note on Public Forum: the tournament will run the new additional and changes to the NSDA Public Forum rules including extending summaries by 1:00 minute and extending prep time by 1:00 minute during each round.

Schedule: We will run SIX rounds in debate and FIVE rounds in IEs. Congress will have THREE preliminary sessions, Semis, and Finals. Students may double enter in each pattern.

Registration will be conducted online only, and we encourage you to browse the tabs above to find any additional information regarding our tournament. A detailed schedule is forthcoming, but know on Saturday and Sunday, events will begin at 8:30am.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
