The Connecticut Debate Association will hold its first "eTournament" on Saturday, May 30.

Registration opens Monday, May 11, at 8AM.  All teams and judges must be registered by Saturday, May 23 at 8AM.  Given the complexity of running our first eTournament, we will not accept last minute entries.

This tournament will be open to all CDA debaters.  However, there will be separate divisions for Varsity and Novice State Finals qualifiers, as well as Open Varsity and Open Novice divisions for non-qualifiers.  If at least 60% of the debaters who qualified for State Finals enter the SF Varsity or SF Novice divisions, then those will constitute the 2019-2020 CDA State Finals.  If fewer than 60% enroll, we will run with a combined Varsity and combined Novice division.

As we will be using internet conferencing to run the tournament, debaters and judges will need to have suitable hardware in order to compete or judge.  In order to accommodate learning and possible problems, we will have practice sessions the week prior to the tournament.  In addition, the schedule for May 30 has been extended past our usual times, though if we find we can move more quickly we will do so.

The attached invitation has more details regarding registration, hardware and other matters.  We ask coaches to read the invitation carefully and to have their debaters and judges also read the invitation carefully.  If you have any questions, please email us.

We encourage all CDA debaters to participate.  Given the uncertainties for the 2020-21 school year we may have to run the entire season virtually.  In addition to being a competitive event, the May 30 eTournament is a practice run for next year.

This tournament is only open to CDA member-school debaters.  The State Final divisions are open only to those who have qualified at one of our regular tournaments during the year.  Coaches have been emailed a list of qualifiers and details about forming teams.

If you have any questions or comments, please email ejrutan3@ctdebate.org or visit the CDA website at http://ctdebate.org .
