South Oregon District Tournament
2019 — OR/US
South Oregon District Qualifier
for the 2019 National Tournament
January 14, 2019
It's time once again to test ourselves and decide who is off to Dallas! This year, you will notice several changes to our "normal." Please check over this page as well as the pages for each of the Tournament Series events, and email or call me with questions. We really want to field our strongest team possible. As always, I would encourage you to fill your slots. This not only helps us qualify others, but also gives younger competitors a glimpse into the qualification process at a time when they are not under the same pressure to perform as they might be in subsequent years. With the addition of events (notably Big Question and World Schools), more kids are going to Nationals than ever before. This is not only exciting, but it also makes it a little easier for some of our less experienced competitors to move up into vacated slots.
Participant Requirements:
Both schools and competitors must be members 7 days prior to the tournament date. The number of entries allowed is based on the formula as of that date, which you can find by clicking on the District Info tab in your NSDA Account. Big Question (BQ) and World Schools have unlimited entries. Note that all competitors in BQ qualifier must also be NSDA members.
Student of the Year
Each school attending the NSDA tournaments may nominate one senior for the honor of South Oregon District Student of the Year. Please complete the form available on the NSDA website and bring it with you. All submissions are due at registration to the Speech and Debate portion of the series.
The only school forms you need to bring to the tournaments this year are Single Entry Letters of Intent and School Consent forms, both printable from Tabroom.com.
Fees:
$40 school fee (owed only once for the tournament series)
$15.00 per speech or debate event
$10.00 per congress entry
$5 per Big Question debate
Judging fees: $15 per uncovered speech, debate (inlcuding BQ and Worlds) entry
Please make checks payable to:
South Oregon NSDA
c/o North Valley High School
6741 Monument Drive
Grants Pass, OR 97526
If you owe fees to NSDA National, please be sure you bring a separate check or proof of payment to the meet.
Judging:
Please bring qualified judges with you, as we would like to finish on time. This can only be done with a large pool willing to judge all events.
- Congress, Speech and Debate Expectations: 1-6 entries: 1 judge, 7-12 entries: 2 judges, 13+ entries: 3 judges (congress judges may wind up judging BQ if they are affiliated with a team).
- BQ Expectations are 1 judge per 2 entries.
- Coaches are expected to judge. Please make yourself available for all rounds your students advance to, plus 1 round after. For both judging and official reasons, please check with the tournament director if you need to leave for any reason.
If you bring judges beyond your obligation, they can be paid on a per round basis.
Electronic Ballots
All rounds will use electronic ballots on Tabroom.com this year. This is new for us, but not new to the area. Every judge should bring an internet capable device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc). All judges will need to set up accounts on Tabroom.com to receive and return ballots. There will be several people on-hand to help train judges new to the system.
