Once again, the Rotary International Club of Paris will be extending its generosity to sponsor the tournament. We take special pride in the unique awards we feature. The Rotary Club will present the first place winner in each category with a $100 scholarship to the college of his or her choice. We also award trophies to the top 6 finishers in each event. In addition, sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top 3 schools.

 

Competition will be offered this year in the following categories:

 

Dramatic Interp

Duo Interp

Extemporaneous Speaking

Humorous Interp

Impromptu Speaking

Informative Speaking

Original Oratory

Poetry

Program Oral Interp

Prose

Storytelling

and Public Forum Debate.

 

Each school may send 6 entries in each event. Doubling is allowed except for debaters. Material from one source may not be entered by that student in a second event. THSSDL rules will be followed for all individual events. Debate will follow NSDA rules and use the Nov/Dec PFD topic.

 

Entries must register no later than Monday, Oct. 29. Both the entry fee and an equal drop/add fee will be charged after 3:00 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 31. The entry fee will be $7.00 per student per event entered. In addition, we ask that each school furnish 1 qualified judge for every 6 IE entries or major portion thereof, and 1 judge for every 2 public forum teams. Please do not enter debate if you have no one who will judge it. If your school is unable to fulfill its judging requirements, a fee of $25 for each missing judge will be charged.  

 

**IMPORTANT NOTE:  Entry to the school will be around the back of the school in E bldg due to construction on the front of the main building.

DIRECTIONS

 

We are a 2 hr. drive from Nashville, 2 ½ hrs. from Memphis, 1 hr. from Clarksville, 1 hr. from Jackson, 1 hr. from Paducah, Ky., and 30 min. from Murray, Ky.

 

From Nashville take I-40 W toward Memphis: take the Camden-Parsons-Paris exit. Bear right onto Hwy 641 N. & continue through Camden & into Paris. You will dead end at a traffic light. Turn right onto Hwy 69-A. In 1 block turn left onto Langford Rd. It runs into the school. Please enter from the front.

 

From Clarksville, take Hwy. 79 through Dover & across the bridge at Paris Landing. It will become a 4-lane known as East Wood St. Make a left at the first traffic light past the Quality Inn onto Fairground Rd. Then take the first street to the right, which is Wilson. It runs into the back door of the school. Please enter from the front.

 

From Memphis, exit I-40 East onto the Hwy 45 N. Bypass through Jackson & follow Hwy 45 east toward Milan. Once in Milan, turn right onto Hwy 79 which will take you through Atwood, Trezevant, and McKenzie before reaching Paris. When you see the big catfish at the light intersecting Tyson Ave & Mineral Wells Ave., turn right, go through 3 traffic lights, bearing left at the 2nd one, and turn left onto Lankford Rd. It runs into the school.

 

From Murray, Ky. you will enter Paris on Hwy 641 S. Make a left on the court square at the Post Office onto East Wood St. Follow it through the Tyson Ave. intersection & take a right at the next traffic light onto Volunteer. Turn left at the first stop sign onto Lone Oak Rd. Turn right at the first light onto Wilson St. It will lead to the back door of the school. Please enter from the front.

Concessions will be sold in the Cafeteria by the lobby, where results will be posted. Please eat on campus as this is a fundraiser. A hospitality lounge will also be provided for coaches & judges.
