Tournament Announcements
OI Round 1 is POETRY.
Extemp Prep is Room S221.
Congress announcements will be made in the Brady Center.
LD and PF are DOUBLE-FLIGHTED. Both flights' debaters should report at the start time. Flight 1 debates while Flight 2 waits quietly outside the room. Then Flight 1 leaves and Flight 2 enters and debates. Judges will need to submit decisions, points, and a brief RFD immediately after each flight, then write their comments after both flights.
Turn OFF your cell phones. Using a cell phone during a round will result in disqualification. EXCEPTIONS: Cell phones may be used as timers if you demonstrate to the judge that they are in airplane mode and silent, or as hotspots if they are silenced and put away for the duration of the round.
Laptops and tablets are allowed in Policy, Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Student Congress, and Extemp Prep but must run on their own batteries. Internet may be used to access content, but you MAY NOT be in contact with anyone outside the room.
Students are responsible for knowing and abiding by the current rules of their event. Official rules are posted at NCFL.org.
Judges are not to give oral critiques or decisions. Do not ask them to do so.
Debate sides are SET. Confirm your codes and debate sides with your judge. IE Speaker order is set.
We do not run on a set schedule. The published timetable is tentative and is subject to change. We have two rounds (or one session of Congress) in the AM, lunch, then two rounds (or two sessions of Congress) in the PM. Rounds can begin when judges and competitors all arrive to the room and Judge has confirmed codes.
Except for Congress, students are not allowed in classrooms until the judge is present. Be quiet in the hallways while waiting and when leaving. Clean up after yourselves in rooms and in the lunch area.
This tournament only: Student observers may be present in all rounds, and adult observers will be present in the afternoon. They should sit in the back or sides of the room and be quiet. Student observers may NOT flow debates or take notes on rounds. If an observer is disruptive to the round, the judge has the authority to ask that observer to leave.
Tournament issues should be taken to your coach immediately. Do not wait. Actions cannot be taken once the next round begins.
