Extemporaneous Speaking
Event Description:
Time Limit: 7 minutes
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Note cards may be used during the presentation. Topics will be domestic/international issues taken from the last four months’ news events. Current NFL guidelines will apply to the Extemp Prep Room. Students will draw 3 topics and select one before going to prepare their speeches for 30 minutes.
The arrival of Extemp competitors will be staggered by roughly 7 minutes. The competitor must hand over the printed question that he selected. The judge will record the participant’s chosen topic and proceed with the speech. Observers are allowed but no one should interrupt the speaker. After hearing all the speakers in the round, judges should complete the ranking and ballots and return them to the ballot table.
