  1. All teams will be debating this year’s resolution –
    1. Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce its restrictions on legal immigration to the United States.

  1. All debates will use the standard 8-3-5 cross-examination format with 5 minutes of prep time per team per round.

  1. Following KSHSAA’s rule: Computers will be allowed, however please note that there is to be NO INTERNET. If your team is caught using the internet during a round, they will be dealt with using KSHSAA ruling.  Charging in round is fine, as long as whatever was unplugged is plugged back in.

  1. We will be following KSHSAA rules.

  1. The Maize South Novice Night will adhere to the Kansas Debate Coaches Novice Case List. All novice teams entered must run an affirmative that addresses a topic area chosen by coaches. A list of the allowed affirmative topic areas can be found on the next page. In the event that teams do not read one of these affirmatives, judges will be instructed to continue watching the round, but award a win to the negative, regardless of outcome.

  1. Cancellations will result in rescheduling, substitution of host teams, or byes.

  1. No maverick, three person teams, and / or scouting will be allowed.

  1. Teams more than 15 minutes late to any round without the fault of the tournament may forfeit that round on a 7.

  1. Registration fees will be $6.00 per team. Entry deadline is on Monday, October 15th OR when we are full! Entries received after this time may be accepted at the host’s discretion. Fees are due and deadlines (entries, judges, drops + name changes, fees/obligations) are final on Monday, 10/15, by 4:00 PM. (Communicate with me if Tabroom.com is wonky, I’ll try to be as amenable as possible.)

  1. Coaches and/or sponsors will be required to stand by for judging if necessary. We will try to get enough judges for the day.  We reserve the right to use 3rd or 4th year debaters as judges in novice division if necessary.

  1. Medals will be awarded to the top 8 teams.

  1. Entries will be accepted on Tabroom.com. I am still not very adept with Tabroom, so please bear with me as I navigate the website.
