Event Description:

i. The selections should be cut from published material- either play script or prose. Please bring copy of source material to the competition.

ii. Students should provide a short introduction (15 to 20 sec.) which may be delivered after a teaser (i.e. one part of the prose). The intro should include the theme of the program. This introduction is considered part of the speech delivery time.

iii. This should be memorized.

iv. Focal points, accents, physicalization for each character and narrator should be established. The more characters the stronger the presentation. Judges should be able to readily distinguish between each character. A key criterion is the effectiveness of expressing the emotion of the prose.

v. The presentation should be of 5 to 7 minutes in duration. If the speech is shorter than 5 minutes or longer than 7:30, the speaker cannot be ranked first.
