Event Description:

Extemporaneous Speaking: Students will give 5-minute speeches on topics that will be made available before the tournament. Students are encouraged to use sources to advance their argument. Students will draw three of the pre-announced topics and have 30 minutes to prepare a speech on one of their choice. Students may use the internet during their prep time. Students may use their notepad when they deliver their speech.

 

Time limit: 5 minutes with a 30 second grace period. Students who speak beyond the time limit plus the grace period may not be ranked 1st. Judges should offer to provide visual time signals.
