Time Limit • Minimum - 4 minutes.  If the speaker under 4 minutes, that contestant must not be awarded first place.

Judging Criteria • Introduction: The introduction may have a formalized introduction, or just jump right on in.

• Presentation Style: The speaker may convey a specific message, or not. It is completely up to them. The only adhering principle is that they must speak for a minimum or 4 minutes and a maximum of 6. The choice of message depends on the student. They must "Just Talk". The performer may bring a prepared script and read from it or recite from memory. The student may not solicit or receive prompting from audience coaching.

• Vocal Delivery: The speaker may be articulate and fluent. The speaker may make use of contrast, making use of the elements of vocal variety: pitch, volume, rate, pausing, phrasing, stress, and tone. The speaker can be conversational and concerned, passionate and pleasing, or none of these things.

• Physical Delivery: The speaker should be physically open to the audience and use body language that invites the audience into the world of the speaker. The speaker may vary facial expression to accentuate the natural flow of thoughts and feelings. The speaker may make eye contact with the audience. Movement, if used, should be motivated by transitions in thought or mood. Gestures should be visible, effectively used for emphasis, and varied, however, there are no specific requires for the speech--except the 4-6 minute speaking limits.

• Overall Effect:The speaker should instill in the audience a concern for the speech’s content.

• Any non-speaking expressions such as singing or dancing should not be excessive or dominate the performance. Judges ranks may reflect if nonspeaking expressions have dominated the performance.

• The speaker should be able to interest the listeners and to hold their attention.
