Event Description:

Extemporaneous Speaking: Students will give 5-minute speeches on topics that will be emailed to coaches the week of the tournament. Students are encouraged to use sources to advance their argument. Students will draw three of the pre-announced topics and have 30 minutes to prepare a speech on one of their choice. Students may use laptops but may not use the internet during their prep. Students may use their notepad when they deliver their speech.

Time limit: 5 minutes with a 30 second grace period. Students who speak beyond the time limit plus the grace period may not be ranked 1st. Judges should offer to provide visual time signals.
