Event Description:
Short for "Spontaneous Argumentation," SPAR is an event that involves quick thinking and clash. At the start of the round, the affirmative (AFF) will veto one topic, followed by the negative (NEG) speaker vetoing one topic. The students will then debate the remaining topic. All competitors assigned to the round can ask questions during the cross-examination. Research is not permitted during prep time. Notes/flowing are permitted.
Time allocation will be as follows:
• 2 minutes of preparation time for both the AFF and NEG, taken simultaneously
• 1 minute constructive speech for AFF
• 1 minute constructive speech for NEG
• 2 minutes cross-examination (all competitors assigned to the round can ask questions)
• 1 minute rebuttal/closing speech for NEG
• 1 minute rebuttal/closing speech for AFF
