Reindeer Rhetoric
2025 — Pensacola, FL/US
Lincoln Douglas High
Event Description:
· This is a traditional 1v1 debate. Lincoln Douglas has a specific format (6/3/7/3/4/6/3) in which both debaters get a total of 12 minutes of speaking time and 6 minutes of cross examination time in a round. This is a values debate, meaning resolutions are a proposition of value. Debaters are to develop argumentation on the resolution in its entirety based on underlying principles and values that support their positions. They are not responsible for practical applications of the resolution. No plans or counterplans should be introduced by either debater but students should define the value/principle they are arguing and criteria for measuring that value. Debaters are judged on the following: persuasiveness and clear value development, logical argumentation with evidentiary support, clash, clear communication, speaking style and delivery. The win and loss will be decided on content of the argument, effectiveness of the rebuttal, and clarity. Speaker points are also awarded to each debater on elements of speaking style.
