Persuasive Speaking

Abbreviation PS
Format Speech
Entry Fee $0.00
Entry 1 competitors per entry

Event Description:

Persuasive Speaking is a 7-13 minute oration written and performed by the student. Persuasive Speaking requires students to balance that content with delivery and style. Speakers must be articulate, engaging, and smooth with their delivery at both a vocal and physical level. The purpose of the event is to inform and persuade the audience on a serious problem that actually exists. Persuasive Speaking is NOT solely an English-speaking competition, but a competition that judges both speechwriting and performance. Students are expected to memorize their speech. Speakers may use a single notecard, although judges are often more impressed by speakers who do not use any notes. Any speaker who hides their use of a script or notes of any kind faces the above consequences plus potential disqualification and sanction by the TOC Organizing committee up to and including a permanent ban.
