Impromptu Speaking - Speakers will be given FOUR minutes TOTAL to prepare AND deliver a speech. This means speakers must take less than three minutes to prepare so they can give at least a one-minute speech. It is recommended that students spend no more than three minutes preparing.
Students can use blank paper or a notecard to prepare their speeches. It is suggested they use a notecard. They may not use a computer and are absolutely restricted from using the internet during preparation.
Categories for the tournament will be revealed soon. The specific topic will be different for each speaker. Students should make an argument regarding the given topic with examples. Judges should remind students of the time remaining every minute. The impromptu topic is in the tabroom ballot. Follow the order for speakers. Each speaker will have a different topic (based on the round category).
