Impromptu Speaking

Event Description:

**Impromptu Speaking Instructions:**

This event combines preparation and speaking into one fluid time block using topics displayed on your e-ballot.

1. **Fairness:** Please ask all competitors except the current speaker to wait quietly outside the room. Call them in one at a time.
2. **Speaker Order:** Please call speakers in this specific order to accommodate double entries:
   1. * 1st: Students double-entered in Extemp.
   2. * 2nd: Students single-entered in Impromptu.
   3. * 3rd: Students double-entered in Impromptu & another non-Extemp IE event.
3. **Procedure:**
   1. * Call the next speaker into the room.
   2. * Show them the 5 topic choices displayed below on your ballot.
   3. * Start a **30-second timer** for them to choose ONE topic. *
   4. **Immediately** after they choose, start the main **7-minute timer**. This 7 minutes includes both prep and speaking.
   5. **Timing:** Students manage their own prep/speak allocation within the 7 minutes. Please provide standard time signals or confirm with the speaker how they wish to be timed.
4. 5. **Evaluation:** Judge based on organization, analysis, delivery, and overall effectiveness, considering the limited prep time. Remember our focus on encouragement!
