World Schools
Event Description:
In World Schools Debate, teams of 3-5 students will debate a mixture of prepared and impromptu topics. Debate largely centers around logic and reasoning rather than an emphasis on evidence and data/statistics, although there is a role for both of these things, especially in prepared motion rounds. In a round, World Schools Debate is a three-on-three format. While a given team may consist of five members, only three students from a team participate in a given debate. Teams will be assigned one of two sides in each round - Side Proposition, who must support the motion, or Side Opposition, who must advocate for the rejection of the motion. Debaters present their position on a topic, refute their opponents, and respond to questions throughout the course of the debate.
