Event Description:
A speech which demonstrates “how to” -- a practical or artistic skill or process. The speech, on any topic, may be humorous or serious in nature, but the speaker should strive to provide organized, clear and easy-to-follow directions in a natural, realistic and believable way. The contestant may refer to an appropriate visual aid during the speech. No materials dangerous to the health or safety of the participant or the audience may be used. (i.e. foodstuffs, chemicals, live animals, laser pointers.) Materials are not to be passed around the room to audience members or to the judge(s) before or during the speech. These materials must be transportable by the individual student. The student may deliver the speech from memory or from notes; a student should not read verbatim from a manuscript.
