Event Description:

Mixed Extemparaneous (Domestic and Foreign)

Extemporaneous Speaking, typically called "extemp," is a speech on current events with limited preparation time and is currently only offered in middle school. Students are presented with a choice of six questions related to national and international current events. The student has 20 minutes to prepare a 4-minute speech answering the selected question. Students may consult articles and evidence they gather prior to the contest and may use the Internet during preparation. Students should deliver this speech using only one 3x5 notecard. This card WILL be provided by the tournament in prep.

Round 1 will be questions pulled from US: President Biden administration and COVID-19 (WHO, vaccinations, Biden Administration, Donald Trump, stimulus checks...)

Round 2 will be questions pulled from Foreign: COVID-19 and Turkey (Space frontier, vaccinations, Latin America COVID-19, Turkey COVID-19, New Zealand COVID-19, vaccine passports...)

Round 3 will be mixed questions from US and Foreign: Politics, energy, and economics (streaming services, renewable energy, South African government, unemployment systems, airline industry, middle class, mask mandates, homelessness...)
