DUO INTERPRETATION PROCEDURES

This is a two-person category in which the selection may be humorous or dramatic in nature. Using off-stage focus, competitors convey emotion and environment through a variety of performance techniques focusing on the relationships and interactions between the characters. Each of the two performers may play one or more characters, so long as performance responsibly in the cutting remains as balanced as possible. No props or costumes may be used. Performances must include an introduction written by the student stating the title and the author. Focus may be direct during the introductions (the performers may look at each other) but must be indirect (offstage) during the performance itself. Performers may not touch except in the introduction.

Selection may not have been used by the competitor in a prior school year. Selection may not be used by the student in another event. No props or costumes are allowed.

Maximum time limit is 10 minutes. Students exceeding the time limit by more than 30 seconds cannot receive a first-place rank.
