Event Description:
In Extemporaneous Speaking, students are presented with a choice of three questions related to current events and, in 30 minutes, prepare a five to seven-minute speech answering the selected question. Students may consult articles and evidence they gather prior to the contest, but may not use the Internet during preparation. Topics range from political matters to economic concerns to foreign policy to international crisis. Students are given questions that range from domestic issues within the United States to international issues. The speech is delivered from memory.
5-7 minute time limit with a 30 second grace period.
