Event Description:
5-7 minute speech based on current event prompt that student selects 30 minutes prior to speaking. Student may have one 4x6 notecard, but varsity performers will not use a notecard. Students should cite date and name of news sources they use, for example: "According to New York Times, Oct. 7..." Students should state the question within the introduction- generally after the AGD [Attention Getting Device] and provide a short roadmap of their main points (generally three)- these are one-two word tags, not full sentences. They should indicate what the answer to the prompt question is before getting into the reasons for this answer. They should not discuss their personal opinions but rather focus on what the analysis/evidence supports.
