Presiding Officer - Congress

Event Description:

Presiding Officer Competition @ MLK

If you have a competitor(s) who wish to participate as a Presiding Officer for the tournament please enter them here. We ask that schools with 5 or more entries in Congress provide at least one student willing to preside.

We will require two Presiding Officers per chamber and all P.O. competitors are effectively competing as BOTH speakers and officers for the opportunity to break to out round competition. The 90-minute session will be split evenly between each P.O. and, when not presiding over the chamber, the officer competing as a speaker will have an automatic priority for a single speech to ensure equal access to competition.

Student competitors in the chamber will vote for the top Presiding Officer for each session and Judge's Preference will be used to calculate any tie-breaker scenarios. At the end of the preliminary sessions, the top 4 Presiding Officers will advance to the semifinal round, and the top two will advance to finals.
