Entry Rules

The deadline for submitting your final registration for Speech Events in Tabroom is:  9:00 am - Tuesday, March 2, 2021

The deadline for submitting your final registration for L/D, and PF in Tabroom is:  9:00 am - Tuesday, March 16, 2021

At that time registration will be closed.  No additions will be granted, and any changes will need to be communicated to District Chair Bill Fleming.

You will need to take the following steps to guarantee your entry in the district tournament.

Please use it as a checklist to make sure you have all of these steps completed.

 1.

All outstanding fees to the national office must be paid one week before the tournament date.
This includes national dues and membership fees.  Please have proof of payment.

 2.

You must have paid your 2020-2021 Illini District dues.
If you have not, you can pay them along with your entry fee.

3.

You must have paid your 2019-2020 Illini District dues.
If you did not pay your 2019-2020 Illini District dues last year because you did not enter the district tournament and were a member of the Illini District in 2019-2020 you must pay these as well. New schools to the district are exempt.
If you are not sure if you paid last year's dues, please contact Jan Heiteen.

4.

All students competing at the district tournament must be NSDA members.
The Joy of Tournaments program uses the NSDA database to register.  If a student is not listed in the NSDA database as a member, you will be unable to register them for the tournament.

Please check the
NSDA website to make sure your students are eligible to compete.

5.

All members and degrees need to be posted online no later than 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 26 to determine number of entries allotted per team and eligibility of students to compete.

6.

Your entry must be completed in Tabroom no later than 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 2.

7.

There are no additions to your team roster after 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 2.

Failure to meet minimum registration requirements in ANY of the events may jeopardize our ability to advance the expected numbers to nationals for this year as well as future years.  Please keep your numbers stable!

ENTRY LIMITS

1.  Your tournament entries are determined by the "Strength" of your chapter, which is determined by the number of members and degrees that your students have earned. For individual events, the level will be set seven days prior to that tournament.   To determine how many entries you are allowed see the chart below, or go to the NSDA HS Unified Manual.

2.  Each school is limited to four (4) entries in any one event.

3.  Policy and Public Forum debate teams and Duo Interp entries all count as one entry against your total number of entries.

DOUBLE ENTERING

Students will be allowed to double enter at the district qualifier.  However, no student will be allowed to double enter at Nationals.   Students will complete a Single Entry Letter of Intent by the day of the tournament indicating which event they plan to take to nationals should they qualify in both their events.  This includes students who compete in a team event and an individual event.

Students may double enter with the following restrictions:

Students may enter only one Debate category.
Students may enter only one Extemp category.
Students may enter only one team event (Public Forum Debate, Duo Interp).

Even though the Events and Debate tournaments are held on different weekends, the above rules apply.  If a student is double entered at the Events tournament, they will be ineligible to compete in LD or PF.  They can, however, enter Congressional Debate.

The student is doubling in LD, HI, DI, USX, IX, OO, INFO, POI

The student and his/her partner are BOTH entering in one team event and one individual event.

If two students are entered in a team event as partners and qualify in both their team event and each of their individual events, they may choose to qualify in their individual events rather than the team event.  If only one student of the team qualifies in an individual event, the student who qualified in both no longer has a choice.  He/she must qualify in the team event.

Failure to adhere to these rules will be cause for disqualification.
