1. Mostly a congress judge because that's all I was mediocre at.
2. Speak clearly. If I can't understand you, I'm not going to mark you up, it doesn't matter how good you think your argument is. if I can't understand or hear what you say, you're not getting the points you probably deserve.
3. Be respectful. It's honestly not that hard, if you respect your opponents they'll likely respect you back. Same thing goes for judges. This includes pronouns, don't assume, either ask or use gender neutral ones. I don't tolerate invalidation or discrimination whatsoever.
5. Have fun. Debate is supposed to be enjoyable, you get to decide how enjoyable it is for you.
6. I'm here to help you, if you have a question about the round or about the general operations of the event, I may have an answer for you so don't be afraid to ask. And if I don't have an answer for you, I will absolutely do my best to get that answer for you.
7. **I love seeing people who understand the actual operations of real world congress and who can shape their arguments around whether they're in the House or Senate. If you do this, and do it well, you will most likely get marked up because I love that. It means you care about what you're doing and how you're doing it.
8. ** Be short and concise with your questions and answers, but also be respectful with the type of question you ask. Time wasting, attacking, or argument building questions don't fly with me.
9. **If you have an amendment, show it to me at a respectful time, not in the middle of a speech.
10. I will never, ever tolerate abuse of any kind. If your opponent(s) look uncomfortable with what it is you are saying or you are being abusive towards me or them in any fashion, it's an automatic lose. I don't care how good your case or your evidence is. If you are abusive and destructive in round, you will lose. It's not even a little bit worth it.
11. **Never, EVER, preface. Do not do it. If the chair catches you prefacing or if I catch you prefacing I will definitely mark you down. Prefacing is abusive and unfair to the other speakers and you'll probably lose at least two places from me. I never ever will tolerate prefacing.
** Applies to specifically Congress
