Hello,
I am a first year parent judge.
I am looking for clarity and eye contact.
Speech/case organization is important, and should be relatively easy to follow.
I write my feedback simultaneously as I listen to the speech. Avoid spreading so I can follow the argumentation.
Be respectful and cordial to your opponent.
Good luck!

Lay judge, no spreading. I have judged Congress to oi to policy. I will always write long form notes on in round speeches, but I may not set up my flow like conventional debaters.

Just go with your preparation and keep it relevant to your topic and do your best. You'll be judged by each of the judging criteria outlined for each event. I'm given equal weights for each criteria at this time (may do weighting in near future).

Hey everyone I’m Ms.Stacy, the PF coach from Leland. Here is the paradigm for PF specifically:
Put me on the chain: shaky1832@yahoo.com
Treat me as a lay (less jargon, slower speed, etc.) I did not compete or coach tech-debate a lot so I am still working on understanding the intricacies of PF. Traditional speaking style/content delivery does weigh into my overall perception of the round, make of this what you will. Be fluent and seem passionate about what you are talking about and you will do great!
That being said, I can tell when a response is new. New responses that were not in rebuttal or summary will not be evaluated. I would like to understand the response as you are giving it, not 2 speeches later. As much as I try to be tech>truth, bad response quality, and explanation does still hurt. The same goes for extensions, which take longer than a 5-second speed run in the back half. If I do not understand the argument, I will not vote on it.
Keep advocacies topical. I do not trust myself to evaluate any sort of pre-fiat offense whether it be theory, kritiks, or whatever else. The most I could do is evaluate an evidence IVI if the cut is bad.
Please weigh. I often have a hard time making the “right” decision if I have to evaluate multiple lines of offense with no comparative weighing. If you start the weighing strong and early, it makes the round much easier to evaluate.
Most importantly, remember to have fun!
When judging WSD, I will vote mostly on the rubric, however, the flow does have a place in my overall decision.

Speak clearly, SLOWLY and to the point. Make sure to clearly explain your arguments and support them with credible evidence. In rebuttals, clearly reference the argument you are refuting, and be sure to give a quick overview, or off-time road map, before your speech for clarity.

Hi, everyone,
I am a lay parent judger and has limited experience in speech and debate. I will weigh my decision based on:
- solid data and strong evidence to support your view.
- good communication and respect your opponent team.
- clear logic, no contradiction.
Prefer normal speaking speed. If you use speech/debate terms, explain once when you first use it.
Good luck and enjoy debate.

I used to judge many speech events. Here are a few things important for speakers in speech events: Effective voice modulation (exaggerated voice is okay too), a bit slower pace (slower & faster mixed pace works better), Use of articulation a few times, gestures (not necessarily all the time), and bigger excitement.
I am new to PF debate judging. I feel better when debaters present enough evidences with confidence and logical justifications for their arguments.
Good luck!

I’ve judged a few tournaments in the last two years, and I would consider myself to be a lay judge. I’m open to listening to any arguments that you want to run as long as they are clear, well warranted, and delivered clearly. I do flow in the round and do my best to vote off of the arguments that remain at the end of the round. I typically give high speaker points as long as you are clear and explain yourself well.
At the end of the day, debate is supposed to be fun and a learning experience, so please try to have fun in the round and be respectful of your opponents in the round.

I am looking for fluency and confidence while speaking as well as your ability to ask and answer questions during crossfire. Make sure you don't drop any contentions or subpoints in your rebuttal speech. I will take that into account while judging. Don't be rude to your opponents either, and have fun!

I focus on your presentation and thought-out compelling arguments.
Engage the audience. Eye contact, movement, the tone of your voice, looking up (vs reading off notes or computer) are all positives. Do not be afraid to let your passion show.
Good Luck!

Lay Parent Judge
Please don't speak super fast so that I can actually understand your arguments. If your speed becomes too fast to understand I simply won't vote on it. Respect you opponents but I still want to see a competitive crossfire. Overall, I will vote on whichever team has defended their case better than the other. Please give me an impact on which I can actually vote on, and tell me why I should favor your argument. Also, it would help if you explain the topic before starting the round so I can judge as accurately as possible.

I'm a parent judge. Speak slowly and clearly and give me clear reasons like voting issues about why I should vote for you. I won't vote off an argument I don't understand.

I am a parent judge and I have been judging events for the last 2-3 years.
For congress debate tournaments:
I look for clarity, speaking to the point, using floor space, eye contact, respect to other members. If you spread, talk too fast, run through impact parts too fast, I won't be able to keep track and will ignore them.
I try to focus and listen the entire duration of your speech. I write my feedback simultaneously as I listen to the speech. I also listen carefully to cross examinations, and will take account of every time you make a good point or defend effectively. Use your cross examination time effectively, I won't reward when there is a stalemate.
My decision is based on: framework, arguments, reasoning, evidence... Focus on why your impacts are important why they are better than your opponent. It would be good if you start out with specifics and then at the end you summarize.

Hi!
I am a parent judge who has judged parli debate for 6 years.
- Please make your arguments clear/logical.
- Use strong evidence and clearly explain your impacts. I highly take evidence and impacts into account, so this could really win you my vote!
- Be organized. Signpost! It is really helpful for me to flow your arguments if you tell me where you are on the flow. Off time roadmaps are also always helpful.
- No spreading. I need to be able to understand you if I am going to flow your arguments. I think speaking too fast is not only hard for me to understand but also completely unfair to your opponents who may have difficulty following your case as well.
- No theory, K, or other advanced debate strategies. I am not experienced in specific debate rules and I highly lean towards on case debate! If you run theory or K, I will still try and flow it but be warned that you will most likely lose the round.
- Please be respectful of your opponents.
Good Luck!

Hello,
Please explain arguments thoroughly at a reasonable pace as I am a lay parent judge and also keep crossfire respectful. I would prefer that no jargon is used in order for me to completely understand. Also make sure you familiarize yourselves with the rules beforehand ensuring no unintentional violations occur.

I am a lay judge. Adapt your argumentation as such. If you use any debate jargon, please clearly define it. I take notes while you debate, but please speak slowly and clearly (no spreading please!). I evaluate the debate based the quality of your arguments and responses, and in a case of a close debate, your speaking skills.

- Group your arguments clearly, usually persuaded by large set of well developed & cited arguments.
- Deliver your arguments slowly and clearly, backed up with evidence (historical/political/data) and adequate reasoning.
- Evidences should be cited with author and any other relevant info.
- I'd look for a well structured plan, impact and evidences over pragmatic analysis.
- Be polite, civil and exhibit eye contact with your fellow debaters as well as with the judges.

I have served as a judge for debate for four years and I prefer slower speech with proper short pauses.
For congressional debate, I would love to see new arguments that really advance the debate.
For speech, I prefer the structured approach with emphasis and rigor logic.
