I am a lay judge, when debating please speak slower and enunciate. Please be kind and considerate when speaking and refrain from being rude or disrespectful to your opponent. Clearly outline your contentions and ensure that you are making it an easy ballot for me to fill out.

Hi! I am Nadia Karpenko, and this is my first year of speech and debate.

I have almost no preferences for arguments as long as everything fits together and makes sense. Speaking more slowly or articulately will make it easier for me to understand the arguments as I am not yet used to debate. Speaker points will be based on the quality of the speech, while the winning side will be more based on the effectiveness of the arguments.

If any arguments degrade groups of people (such as religious, cultural, or identity groups), that is a deal-breaker. Being disrespectful to opponents or losing cool during rounds will also reflect on speaker points.

I've been doing speech and debate since middle school. I am more comfortable with judging speech events, but I have judged debate events, mainly PF. I will be flowing. I am pretty inexperienced regarding technicalities, so treat me like a lay judge. I enjoy cross, so make that count! Most importantly, have fun.
