Robbinsdale Armstrong and Robbinsdale Cooper High School is proud to host their debate tournament on November 19, 2016. The Robbinsdale Birds of Prey promises to offer competitive and exciting tournament action in a simple one-day format.

Formats:
Lincoln-Douglas: We will offer Varsity, JV, and Novice Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Lincoln-Douglas will be held at Armstrong High School. 10635 36th Ave North. Plymouth, MN 55441
Public Forum: We will offer Varsity, JV, and Novice Public-Forum debate.
Congressional Debate: We will offer two sessions of congressional debate.
Public Forum and Congressional will be held at Cooper High School. 8230 47th Ave. North. New Hope, MN 55428
The schools are approximately 10 minutes apart from each other.  We will not be offering shuttles between the buildings.
NOTE: Public Forum debate will follow MDTA rules and sides are set by tab (coin flip is NOT used).
Impromptu - We will be offering Impromptu in both buildings.  We will have three rounds - they will happen after round 3, 4 and 5.  Impromptu speech length plus prep time will be five minutes.  We ask that schools provide one judge for every 4 impromptu students.

Resolutions:
Lincoln-Douglas: November/December topic: Resolved: The United States ought to limit qualified immunity for police officers.
Public Forum: November topic: Resolved:  On balance, the benefits of the Internet of Things outweigh the harms of decreased personal privacy.

Judges:
You are asked to provide one judge for every two entries LD or PF and 1 per 5 Congress and 1 per 4 Impromptu entries.
Please make sure that judges arrive on time. Teams that arrive without their full complement of judges may be charged for hiring of additional judges or asked to drop entries to allow the tournament to run on time.

Registration: For your convenience, we will accept registrations via tabroom.com this year. You can find the site at. http://birdsofprey.tabroom.com
Registration is due by 9:00 PM on Wednesday, November 16th.  Drops can continue on tabroom.com until 7:30 AM Saturday morning.

 

Fees: $12.50 per entry | Public Forum Team or Lincoln-Douglas debater.  $4 per entry for congressional debate. $1 per entry for impromptu.
If you are a new program to debate talk to the tournament host about discounts!!!

Schedule: Round 1 for LD is at 8:30 AM.  Round 1 for PF/Congress is at 8:45 AM.  We recomment schools drop off at Armstrong first and then go to Cooper.  We will have 5 rounds of debate, semi-final and finals in all events (unless numbers do not warrent it).  Awards are scheduled for 4:30 PM with final rounds to start AFTER awards.  Please remind judges that they are obligated through Semi-Finals.

Congress Schedule

  • Session One - 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
  • Session Two - 10:45 to 1:15 PM (lunch 11:45 to 12:15)

Food: Pizza and other concessions will be available throughout the tournament for all students.

 

Entry Limits: We will have an early entry limit of 6 entries per division in LD/PF debate.  Last year we well exceeded room/random spaces to debate in and we had to turn people away.  If this is a problem, enter the students on the waiting list and please let me know.
