Red Rock Classic 2018:

  Nightmare Before Christmas Edition!

Grand County High School welcomes all competitors for this fun, two-day tournament before Winter Break!

We will be celebrating the classic film, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, as our theme this year.

Students may enter in both Debate and IEs; Double-entry allowed in each IE Pattern, except for

Extemporaneous Speaking and Parli. We are happy to offer Parliamentary Debate this year in the IE patterns!

Debate Events: Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Policy, Congressional Debate

IE Pattern A: Informative, Impromptu, POI, Duo, Storytelling, Parli

IE Pattern B: Oratory, HI, DI, Extemp (Combined), Spar

Topics: LD - November/December Topic

PF - November/December Topic

Congress - UDCA Legislation

Extemp - Combination of National and International each round

Impromptu - 1st round words/names, 2nd round quotations, 3rd round questions. Blend of random,

        current events, and theme-appropriate topics.

SpAr - Each round will have a blend of lighthearted, serious, and theme-appropriate resolutions.

Awards at 6:00

Fees & Judging: $15 per school per day and $4.00 per student per event per day. 1 judge for every 6 IEs per pattern, and 1 judge for every 4 debates

Food: Concessions will sell snacks and dinner on Friday until 8:00 pm; Breakfast, snacks, and lunch on Saturday until 3:00 pm. Meals and snacks will be provided to judges and coaches.

Room Use: Please remind students to respect all school property and return desks, chairs, etc. to where they were originally.

Awards: Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place competitors in all events. All other finalists will receive certificates. Awesome, unique trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in overall sweepstakes.
