Extemp Topic Areas

The October tournament will use the following topic areas in Extemp:

US Trade Policy and the Global Economy
US Health Care and Public Health
North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia
The President and His Staff, in Their Own Words*

Note that while one topic area will be used in each round, the topic areas are not necessarily listed in order. These topic areas are intentionally broad, and some questions may be tangential to the plain-language topic.

*This topic area will substitute tweets, political cartoons, or similar media for traditional questions. Contestants will be prompted to compose and answer their own question based on the media provided.
