The district expressed support for having students compete for spots on the Central Texas World Schools Debate Teams. The World Schools Debate contest will take place on March 23rd at Boerne Champion High School, alongside the Big Questions Debate contest. A view of how the contest will function is detailed below:
-Students will enter as individuals, competing for a spot on teams made up of students from across the district.
-Every round of the competition will be an impromptu round. In each round, students will be randomly assigned to a team comprised of three members; teams will be reset for each round, giving students the opportunity to compete on a team with a wide variety of their peers.
-In a WSD round, there are four speeches on each side, given by three separate speakers. Every student will compete in three rounds of WSD; hey will fill a different speaker position in each round to demonstrate their versatility.
-In WSD, each speaker is scored independent of their teammates (see the NSDA Sample Ballot). Points from each speech will be added together. Students with the ten top scores will be offered spots on the district teams.
