Resolutions

Round 1

A. On balance, the rise of artificial intelligence will do more harm than good.

B. The United States federal government should ban the use of large language models by United States federal government employees conducting United States federal government work.

C. The USFG should substantially increase its investment in artificial intelligence safety research.


Round 2

A. The People’s Republic of China should refuse to accept United States Dollars as legal tender.

B. The rise of the “creator economy” has done more harm than good.

C. This House, as a university, would not require students to submit standardized test scores.


Round 3

A. The United States federal government should impose a significant pay floor for nurses in the United States.

B. Iran should end its provision of drones to Russia

C. The State of California should pass a law specifying that a person who causes a vehicle’s autonomous technology to engage is the operator for liability and insurance purposes.


Round 4

A. The accession of Finland to NATO will do more harm than good.

B. An intercontinental railway between the United States, Russia, and China would do more harm than good.

C. The United States federal government should ban and nullify right-to-work laws in the United States.


Round 5

A. The French Republic should reverse its decision to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.

B. Democracies ought not engage in military conscription.

C. This House regrets the classification of electric bicycles as bicycles rather than motor vehicles.


Round 6

A. The Supreme Court of the United States should establish 20 year term limits for its justices.

B. The European Central Bank should cease interest rate increases until at least the end of 2024.

C. When in conflict, governments should prioritize economic stability over growth.


Octofinals

A. South Africa should end its practice of hosting naval exercises with Russia and China.

B. The United States Food and Drug Administration should significantly increase restrictions on the use of antibiotics for farm animals.

C. The United States federal government should implement a plan to create a nationwide high speed rail network.


Quarterfinals

A. Info slide: In 2018, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which oversees the Oscars, proposed the creation of an award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film. The award was intended for blockbuster films with widespread popular appeal, while the award for Best Picture would go to the film best regarded by critics. In response to backlash from journalists and academy members, the proposal was dropped.
Resolved: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) should establish an award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film.

B. The provisions of the National Labor Relations Act banning wildcat strikes ought be repealed.

C. The United States federal government should officially recognize the Republic of Artsakh as an independent state.


Semifinals

A. This House regrets the move by many large corporations to return to in-office (as opposed to remote) work.

B. The United States federal government should cancel the sale of nuclear-powered submarines to the Australian government.

C. The Supreme Court of the United States should rule for Taamneh in Twitter Inc. v. Taamneh (21-1496).


Finals

A. The United States Constitution should be amended to include a right to adequate housing.

B. The USFG should ban individuals and institutions from paying ransoms to hackers.

C. Info slide: It is the year 2078, and aliens have just made contact with humanity. Climate change has made large portions of the Earth uninhabitable, but climate-based revolutions have stopped large-scale emissions and established a clear path for survival. The aliens are not aggressive, but they are firmly convinced that humanity should leave Earth to settle alongside them in space or risk its own destruction.
Resolved: This House, as a representative of humanity, would accept the offer.
