Debate Events

CONGRESSIONAL DEBATE: Legislation is due Monday, 12/4. We will post the docket when we have it all compiled, should be just a few days later.

CONGRESSIONAL DEBATE STUDENTS: NO DOUBLE ENTRY IS ALLOWED.

One division offered, Finalists all earn a TOC bid. Four preliminary sessions with Semifinal and Final sessions.

We will be using standard NSDA procedures. See theNSDA websitefor more information. One division will be offered.Any student may run for the position of Presiding Officer (P.O.). Each chamber elects one P.O. per session.

We will continue allowing internet access during the rounds.

All legislation is due by Monday, December 4th at 5:00 PM. To submit legislation, upload the file, using the provided templates, to Tabroom.com. Do not submit a PDF. The docket will be posted within a few days after the deadline. If more legislation is received than can be realistically debated, all schools registered in Congressional Debate will be given the opportunity to vote for the preliminary docket.

Legislation should conform to standard NSDA formatting. Legislation will be selected for preliminary or final assemblies before the start of the tournament. Each school is permitted up to 15 entries in Student Congress. Chambers will be limited to 20 students, whenever possible.

LINCOLN-DOUGLAS:

LD DEBATE STUDENTS: NO DOUBLE ENTRY IS ALLOWED.

Two divisions offered: Novice (first academic year of competition) and Varsity. Finalists in Varsity earn a bid to the TOC. Six prelims in both divisions, ALL 4-2s will clear up to a full Triple-Octafinals (64 teams).
Varsity will have judge preferences in the form of a 6 category system--teams will only have access to those preferences if ALL policy judges from their school have paradigms on tabroom.com

Lincoln-Douglas debate features individual debaters who will debate on the NSDA topic for January and February of 2024. Varsity and novice divisions will be offered. Novice division is limited to debaters in their first academic year of competition. L/D will use the 6-3-7-3-4-6-3 time format with 4 minutes preparation time for each debater.

POLICY:

POLICY DEBATE STUDENTS: NO DOUBLE ENTRY IS ALLOWED.

Two divisions offered: Novice (first academic year of competition) and Varsity. Varsity Quarterfinalists earn a bid to the TOC. Six prelims in both divisions, ALL 4-2s will clear.
Varsity will have judge preferences in the form of a 6 category system--teams will only have access to those preferences if ALL policy judges from their school have paradigms on tabroom.com

Policy debate features two-member teams who will debate on the 2023-2024 National Speech and Debate Association’s policy debate topic. Novice and Varsity divisions will be offered. Novice division is limited to debaters in their first academic year of competition. If either member of a team is ineligible for the novice division, the team must be entered in the varsity division. The traditional 8-3-5 format will be used with 8 minutes maximum preparation time per team.

PUBLIC FORUM:

PF DEBATE STUDENTS: NO DOUBLE ENTRY IS ALLOWED.

Two divisions offered: Novice (first academic year of competition) and Varsity.Six prelims in both divisions, ALL 4-2s will clear up to a full Triple-Octafinals (64 teams).
Varsity Double-Octofinalists earn a Silver Public Forum TOC bid and Octofinalists earn a Gold Public Forum bid.
Varsity will have judge preferencing in the form of 15% strikes.

This event involves two teams debating over the January 2024 NFL topic. The format is 4-4-3-4-4-3-3-3-3-2-2 with 3 minutes of prep per team. Novice division is limited to debaters in their first academic year of competition.
