Judging

Judging Notes

We are all influenced by implicit bias, or the stereotypes that unconsciously affect our decisions. When judging, our implicit biases negatively impact traditionally marginalized and disenfranchised students. Before writing comments or making a decision, please take a moment to reflect on any biases that may impact your decision making.

If needing to be online, please remember that the video quality of a student’s performance or speech may be impacted by lighting, internet, access to equipment, and other family members’ presence in the home. To ensure a more equitable experience for our participants, please be sure your decision-making process and comments are related only to the content and quality of the presentation or speech itself.

Linking Your Account & Submitting Your Ballot

Please confirm your account is linked on Tabroom prior to the morning of the tournament.  Tabroom sometimes lags when sending out the notifications so be sure to check Tabroom 10 minutes before the start of each round to confirm you are not scheduled for a round. If you are not scheduled, please do not leave the building without notifying tab as we may need to push (assign) you a ballot.

Once you have received your ballot, please press START once both students are in attendance. If a student has not shown up to the room 5 minutes after the scheduled start time, please contact the Tabroom so we may attempt to locate the student.

Once the round is over, we ask that you enter your decision and RFD and submit. Then you may go back in immediately and give additional feedback. This helps us keep the tournament running on time because we can start pairing the next round once all of the decisions are in.
