Resolutions

1.a. The US federal government should repeal the law stating that if the majority of workers in a bargaining unit vote for a union, then that union becomes the exclusive representative for all the workers in that bargaining unit.

1.b. The US federal government should ban strikes by health care workers who directly provide services covered under essential health benefits.

1.c. The US federal government should lift its ban on secondary boycotts.

2.a. An “unbreakable” communication system is one where, unless you have the devices and passwords of the end users, you cannot read the messages they exchange.  An “unblockable” communications system is one where a third party cannot prevent two individuals using the system from exchanging messages, short of seizing those individuals and/or their devices.
Resolved: Unbreakable, unblockable messaging systems would do more harm than good.

2.b. The US federal government should substantially expand NSA authorization for domestic surveillance to counter cyber-attacks launched from US territory.

2.c. The US federal government should establish a policy of launching retaliatory cyber counterattacks in response to state-sponsored cyber attacks.

3.a. The US federal government should significantly lower its tariffs on goods imported from the People’s Republic of China.

3.b. Opposition groups in Myanmar should significantly increase their armed resistance against the current military government.

3.c. In the year 2021 CE, the Earth receives communications from an alien planet. Humans should not reply to those communications.

4.a. The EU should automatically offer membership to any state that successfully secedes from a current or former EU member state.

4.b. This House supports the use of risk assessment algorithms for setting the terms of pretrial release.

4.c. The US federal government should significantly reduce its sanctions on Iran without preconditions.

5.a. The US federal government should require social media companies to pay news publishers for news content posted on the social media platforms.

5.b. Assume that you are a young graduate of a prestigious US university. Resolved: You should accept the highest-paying job you are offered and then donate your discretionary income to charity.

5.c. This House, as Russia, regrets Russia’s expanding partnership with China.

6.a. The US Department of Defense should end the practice of sending military recruiters to high schools.

6.b. On balance, inherited wealth is unjust.

6.c. This House believes that clinical trials for drugs/vaccines that are expected to be primarily used in wealthy countries should occur in wealthy countries.
