Kandi King Award for Excellence in Coaching

Karen "Kandi" King retired from Winston Churchill HS in 2010 after an outstanding coaching career in San Antonio as a coach at both Clark and Churchill HS. An NSDA Hall of Fame member and a true 'giant' in the speech and debate community, Ms. King dedicated her life to forensics and did much more than just help students win local, state and national championships - she helped students become better people. As a coach, Kandi cared about the success of students across the state as and how Texas and San Antonio in particular was represented nearly much as she did her own. She was a resource to coaches and students alike and continues to serve the speech and debate community of Texas to this day. We would like to honor her legacy by presenting the Kandi King Award for Excellence in Coaching to a coach who not has demonstrated competitive success throughout their coaching career, but has also been an outstanding mentor to their students.

Each school's students are allowed to nominate ONE member of their coaching staff for the Kandi King Award for Coaching Excellence. Nominees ideally should be a full-time staff member at their school (coaches with in unique and/or exceptional circumstances may be considered) who has not only demonstrated exceptional forensics coaching skill but also helps their students become better citizens. Nominations should be turned in to Preston Stolte by January 8 at noon.

Nominations must include the coach's name, school, and the name of the person submitting the award as well as a letter supporting their nomination. Multiple students from a school may write letters or collaborate on a single letter, but ideally each school will consolidate their supporting materials to a single email. Nominations should be emailed to sstolt@neisd.net or they may be hand written and turned in at the library.
