2026 Rules of Competition
Please review the 2026 Rules of Competition to gain a complete understanding of the competition requirements and procedures. The rules are available on the Mock Trial website:

Please note that the 2026 Rules should be used for reference, as the 2027 Rules are currently being revised and clarified.

Reminders
1. New Teacher Orientation
All teacher coaches who do not have prior Mock Trial experience must attend a teacher orientation session. These sessions will be scheduled locally by your Regional or District Coordinator during December.
New teacher coaches should contact their District or Regional Coordinator directly for the date, time, and location of their orientation session.
A list of coordinators is available in Tabroom.
2. Conflict Dates Form
The Conflict Dates Form is available in Tabroom.
The fewer conflict dates you provide, the more likely they are to be accommodated. If any team member cannot compete on certain dates due to religious observances, please indicate those dates on the Conflict Dates Form.
Important: If you do not submit a Conflict Dates Form and a trial is scheduled on a conflicting date, the trial may not be rescheduled, and your team may be required to forfeit.
3. Schools with Multiple Teams
Schools entering multiple teams must submit a separate roster for each team to both their District and Regional Coordinators before competition begins.
Once competition starts, including during the state competition, rosters may not be changed except for compelling reasons and only with the approval of the Regional Coordinator.
4. Scheduling
Please direct all scheduling questions to your Coordinator(s) as soon as they arise.
Competition schedules are generally finalized by the end of January. Schedules will not be posted on the Mock Trial website or Tabroom.
5. Questions About the Case
Answers to properly submitted case questions will be posted periodically on the website through supplemental memoranda.
Please review the contact information provided in the Case Materials for instructions on submitting questions. You will receive email notifications through the listserv whenever updates are posted.
6. Documents Required at Each Trial
Every team must provide the following at every trial:
- A signed Code of Ethical Conduct
- A Trial Roster
Both forms are available in Tabroom.
7. Withdrawing Teams
If your team may be unable to compete or may not be prepared when trials begin, please contact your Coordinator and Maria Engles immediately.
8. Educational Purpose of the Program
Please emphasize to your students that, while Mock Trial is a competitive program, its primary purpose is educational. Participation provides students with a unique opportunity to develop advocacy, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
