Radio Broadcast Rules

Overview:

This is not a memorized event. The contestant will present a five-minute radio broadcast judged as if it were a live radio news program. Contestants are given instructions outlining required content such as news, sports, weather, and other segments.

Structure and Timing:

  • The broadcast must be exactly five minutes—no more and no less.

  • Content should be organized in a clear, logical sequence.

  • All required segments should be included and flow smoothly.

Performance Techniques:

  • Contestants must rewrite newswire, internet, and newspaper stories into broadcast-ready copy.

  • Language should be clear, concise, and suitable for audio delivery.

  • Delivery should sound natural and appropriate for a radio broadcast.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Judge the performance as if listening to a real radio news program.

  • Consider timing accuracy, organization, and clarity of delivery.

  • Evaluate transitions and overall flow of the broadcast.

  • Assess the quality and effectiveness of the rewritten content.
