Elim Procedures
JUDGING
All semifinal rounds will have a panel of 2 judges.
All final rounds will have a panel of 3 judges.
NIETOC EVENTS
1-8 entries: 4 prelim rounds, no final
9-14 entries: 4 prelim rounds, break straight to a final of 6-8 entries
15-34 entries: 3 prelim rounds, semifinals of 12-14 entries, then final of 6-8 entries
35-50 entries: 3 prelim rounds, semifinals of 12-14 entries, then final with hard break of 8 entries
51-60 entries: 3 prelim rounds, semifinals with hard break of 16 entries (3 sections), then final of 6-8 entries
61-70 entries: 3 prelim rounds, semifinals with hard break of 20 entries (3 sections), then final of 6-8 entries
71+ entries: 3 prelim rounds, semifinals with hard break of 26 entries (4 sections), then final of 6-8 entries)
NON-NIETOC EVENTS (IMP, POE, PRO, INFO7)
1-8 entries: 3 prelim rounds, no final
9-14 entries: 3 prelim rounds, break straight to a final of 6-8 entries
15-50 entries: break to semifinals of 12-14 entries, then final of 6-8 entries
51-99 entries: break to semifinals of 18-21 entries (3 sections), then final of 6-8 entries
100+ entries: break to semifinals of 24-28 entries (4 sections), then final of 6-8 entries
TIEBREAKERS AND PRINCIPLES
Except when a "hard break" is indicated, we will include all tied entries when possible rather than applying tiebreakers beyond those necessary to hit a round target.
Prelim tiebreakers:
1) Total ranks, truncated to smallest section
2) Reciprocal ranks, truncated to smallest section
3) Opponents' Average Ranks (strength of schedule)
Semi tiebreakers:
1) Total ranks, truncated to smallest section
2) Truncated ranks from elim round only
3) Truncated reciprocal ranks from all rounds
4) Truncated reciprocal ranks from elim round only
5) Prelim seed
Final tiebreakers:
1) Total ranks from all sections (prelims and semis truncated as appropriate)
2) Judges pref in final round
3) Total ranks from final round only
4) Truncated reciprocal ranks from all rounds
5) Prelim seed
