Use Tabroom Share! It’s awesome!
1. Go to Share.Tabroom.com
2. Your room name will be in the Tabroom pairing - it’s usually an adjective, animal, and number.
3. Uploading a file into Tabroom Share will make it available there on the website and sent to your email and it’ll email all participants in the round when you upload it!
4. You can give the Tabroom Share code to anyone and they can see the documents, too!
5. If you ever need to, you can make your own room in Tabroom Share
No Tabroom Share? Setting up the Email Chain Instructions:
The team speaking first has the burden of setting up an email chain, if you’re speaking first (as determined by pairings/coin flip) you should do the following:
-
Look at your judge’s/s’ Paradigm on Tabroom.com to see if you can find their email address
-
If you can’t find your judge’s/s’ email(s), politely ask them if they’d like to be on the email chain in order to view Constructives, Rebuttals, and all evidence more generally.
-
Some judges, especially inexperienced/community/lay judges, will not be interested or comfortable with email chains, they may not even have a laptop with them.
-
Ask for your opponents’ emails and add them to your email message.
-
Finally, don’t forget to add your partner to the email chain!
Send out the email without an attachment to ensure everyone got it - sometimes you may need to have everyone check their spam folder.
Speech Document Sending
Once you’ve completed making your speech document, save it (Verbatim) to a virtual setting you can easily locate to attach as an email. If you don’t have Verbatim/have a Chromebook - make sure you’ve changed your Google Doc settings to “Viewable by anyone” and copy the URL to the email chain message.
-
Make sure you’ve saved your Verbatim Speech Doc / made the Google Doc settings viewable to anyone with the link
-
For Verbatim, save the name of your document with “[SPEECH ACRONYM] vs [OPPONENT CODE - School, Last Name initials]” to make it simple and straightforward
-
Make sure to click “Reply All” rather than “Reply” - you want everyone on the chain to get access to the Speech Doc. Nothing bothers judges more than having to wait for a properly sent doc via email chains.
-
Send your document. Wait for everyone to be able to download the document and pull it up on their laptop. A good question to ask is “Is anyone not ready?”
-
Once everyone has the Speech Document up, you may start your timer and begin your speech
You need a proper laptop, not a Chromebook, in order to use Verbatim - if you have a Windows/Mac, you can download Microsoft Office (which includes Word) in order to get Verbatim for free! Here’s how:

Reminder About Prep
Any time you’re doing the following, it counts as prep time:
-
Speaking to your partner when there’s not a speech/Crossfire
-
Constructing a speech document - once you hit “Save”, you can stop prep.
-
Writing things down when there’s no speech/Crossfire running
What is not prep:
-
Sending the Speech Doc via email
-
Uploading a Speech Doc
-
Giving a roadmap/order for your speech
-
Marking/editing a Speech Doc post-speech to correct it for accuracy
-
Everyone else should avoid prepping - no writing, using your device, talking to partner - to ensure no one is stealing prep
-
Speaking to your partner during a speech
-
It may seem counterintuitive, but if you need to tell your partner something that’s not debate/strategically related: speak loud enough for everyone to hear you so they don’t think you’re prepping.
