Tri State Debate League at Archbishop Molloy
2025 — New York, NY/US
Judging Requirements
Judging:
Please understand that what makes our circuit unique is our high standards and premium on judging- we take this seriously as we want to best serve the brightest students in the metropolitan area who are attracted to our tournaments.Judging is the heart of the Tri-State difference. We need your compliance with this. Only adults with a high school diploma or equivalent are eligible to judge.
While we encourage and desire the most experienced of judges on the national circuit, we understand that's unattainable for all of our programmes. To that end, please make sure you're taking advantage of theNSDAJudge Accreditationpages. You'll notice that judges in specific events will be expected to have certain accreditations in order to judge.
In addition, please make sure each judge has a written Paradigm associated with their Tabroom.com account. Here's a good guide as to what a good Paradigm should include - that way, studentsknow how to adapt to each judge's preferences.
No judges will be accepted or eligible to judge who do not have the following:
- A robust paradigm on Tabroom
- A phone number associated with their Tabroom account
- Level 1: Intro to Impartial Judging
- Level 1: Intro to Judging Debate
- If judging PF:Level 2: Judging Public Forum Debate
- If judging LD:Level 2: Judging Lincoln-Douglas Debate
The Tri-State Debate League Expectation
Judges, remember: you are an active part of the educational process for these students. Debatejudgesare more educators than referees - to that end, please remember to leave good feedback on theballots. Yes, oral feedback and disclosure of results are certainly encouraged! But don't cut out coaches from the process! Coaches need to know the commentary you give students and the Reason For Decision- young debaters are oftentimes unreliable scribes and retellers of rounds. Please ensure that much of what you disclose orally is also written on your onlineballot. You have until the end of the tournament to edit feedback/commentary on yourballots.
BallotConfirmation
Once you are blasted aballot, please be sure to click on the green icon that reads "CONFIRM BALLOT" - do not wait until the round starts to confirm yourballot. Do so ASAP so we know that you're aware of your commitment. If you do not confirm yourballotten minutes prior to the start round, you will be replaced and fined - we don't want to do that.
JudgeCategory Utility
If you're assigned tojudgea particular event, it's highly probable that you will onlyjudgethat event. However, if you're an experienced CXjudge, it's possible that we maximise your utility by putting you in LD and/or PF rounds on occasion. That likelihood increases if you're a hiredjudge. Please be agreeable and helpful if that happens to you - if for some reason you're incapable of doing so, reach out to me ASAP.
If you have any questions, please reach out!
