Schedule

NSDA Schedule

All times are approximated and may be adjusted according to the needs of the tournament.

Feb 1: Congress

Considerations: We must have at least 2 rounds one of which is the final round. The Senate may have 2 “prelim” rounds with the qualifiers calculated by cumulative results. Each round must be at least 10 minutes/competitor. Chamber size is 8-15. Each chamber requires 3 judges- 2 scorers and 1 parliamentarian.

Session 1

8:30-11:30

Session 2 (finals)

12:30-3:30

Friday:

Considerations: We must have 3 prelim rounds and if there are less than eight entries, no elimination rounds are required. Any event with eight or more entries must break to elimination rounds. A minimum of 25% of an event’s entry total (rounded up to the nearest whole number) must advance in each event. No final may be smaller than four entries. All entries whose rank totals are tied with an advancing entry also advance. If more than seven entries advance, we must also have a semifinal round.

Last year we had 1 event need a semifinal round (Informative). This schedule would allow MOST speech competitors to be finished for the weekend on Friday and would also allow for easier numbers for judging.

Saturday

Considerations: We must have at least 4 Prelim rounds and each entry with a winning record (3-1 or 4-0) must advance to elimination rounds. We then have elimination rounds until we have determined the appropriate number of qualifiers. The number of qualifiers is determined based on the number of entries that we have. Last year (2024) our longest event (LD) ran 8 rounds of Debate (4 prelim and 4 elim)

A second IE Elim is slotted into the evening in the event that an event requires a semi-final on Friday. I put it at 7:00 because that should give ample time for communication with entries, is a reasonable start time, and would take place during the second elim round of debate which should ensure MOST students are available and we have judges available. In the event that a student is competing in both Debate Elim 2 and IE Elim 2 we would have to modify the schedule or delay the debate round until that student has performed their speech event.

This schedule is a little tight due to power matching but I think if we communicate the importance of submitting decisions even if feedback isn’t finished we can keep to it.
