Extemp Topic Areas

The extemp topic areas for the 2025 Cal Invitational will be:

Round 1: Climate Change

Round 2: US Foreign Policy

Round 3: Indigenous in "the Americas" (Questions will center on Indigenous Peoples in the so-called US and Canada (Turtle Island) and so-called Latin America (Abya Yala) ).

Round 4: Middle East and North Africa

Octos: Damage Control (It wouldn't be extemp at the Cal without a roleplaying round! Competitors will receive a question regarding a crisis anywhere in the world and answer it from the POV of a world leader)

Quarters: Domestic Disasters (topics will center on various issues going terribly wrong in the US, including social justice, economics, and public health)

Semis: International Institutions (e.g. the ICC, World Bank, NATO, etc.)

Finals: Resistance and Revolutions
