Hi! I'm Avery!

I'm 17 and compete in oratory, impromptu, PF, LD, and congress. I've been to two national circuit tournaments and placed in one of them, and my debate team took 1st in 6A region and 2nd in 6A state.

Whenever possible, your feedback is visible to other competitors. This is so you can see what they did well so you can learn to improve.

Speech:

I'm looking for passion first and foremost. The topic doesn't particularly matter as long as you catch my attention; I'm a sucker for good hooks and humor. Eye contact is especially important, and roadmaps are appreciated.

LD and PF:

I flow CX but do not include it in judging, so please bring up points from CX in your rebuttals. I want clear sources/cards, clear values, and clear contentions. Ad hominem will hurt you greatly.

Policy:

I'm a lay judge for this one. If you spread (speed-read) your case, please share the document with me.

I judge a speech off of three main factors:

-Presentation: I expect to see a good presentation of your speech with hand motions. One that allows for engagement (Have an AGD although avoid personal ones with the exception of Oratory) even if it is a "boring" topic. And I don't want to listen to a monotone voice the whole time use opportunity to adjust your voice.

-Information: I expect you to be well-informed on your topic and have information relevant to a topic. It should make me feel like I know what I am hearing about. I want a direct speech that can give me simple but detailed information about a topic, do not drag it out too much where it mixes up and becomes confusing. And include reliable sources, as much as possible.

-Structure: I want to be able to listen to speeches with a good structure, it makes it very easy to understand. Have prominent points for transitioning contentions or other pieces of your speech or else it becomes difficult to understand.

And as an additional note being racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, or anti-semitic, etc, will get you last.
