Novice Debate Paradigm List
All Paradigms: Show HideHi my name is Atlas Bell, and I’ll be your Presiding Officer for Novice Congress at the Lansing Individual Event Invitational.
About me:
I use they/them pronouns
I am very familiar with congress
Suggestions:
The more you speak the more points you get, speak often and well.
Have some bullet points before you walk up to speak.
Think about how the bill would ACTUALLY be implemented, just because something sounds good doesn’t mean it doesn’t negatively effect the economy, climate, government, and laws.
Try and respond to points made from the opposite view point it creates opposing would views and allows for a more in-depth discussion of the legislation.

POLICY
I’ll give you 0.5-1.5 if you make a good joke in round / if your chill with the other team, I think competition sometimes ruins the community aspect.
————————————————————
If your disrespectful to your opponent I’ll dock points
Pre-round disclosure is good, especially if it’s on the wiki. If not you better make a good argument for it.
Please give me judge instruction, if you say to vote on something and it’s not contested I will, judge instruction is the quickest way to my ballot on face level.
Arguments I won’t evaluate: Non-domestic Terror impacts, Spark, Heidegger, Deleuze.
Other then that I’m good for anything, if you think an argument is violent or problematic tell me why, if you win it I’ll vote on it.

Tech/Truth
V
Tech over Truth unless ethics get involved, if you’re being problematic I’m VERY inclined to vote on procedurals.
Disads
V
Underrated, there can be very great Aff specific disads that are often thrown to the side for generics. Just do impact calc and link work, if you win it I’ll vote on it.
Counterplans
V
I’ll vote on a PIK.
I don’t see why the CP has to solve for the entire Aff, BUT you do have to win a reason why you don’t need to.
Kritiks/K-Affs
V
I do K debate and read a K Aff.
Kritiks I've read: Liberal militarism, Ableism, Oreintalism, Queer Desire, Growth Rhetoric, Trans K.
Kritiks I've help people with: Muslim Oreintalism, Latin SetCol.
I’m a huge link lover, I think if you don’t win a link the K is pretty much useless. With that said I also need a clear explanation on the ROTJ, ROTB, & what the Alt does (not just the name, that’s not an extension)
T-FW/Framework
V
FW IS UNDER UTILIZED, if you win the ROTJ &/or ROTB with me all you have to do is win better solvency then the other team.
PLEASE actually clash on FW don’t just extend you FW tell me WHY the other teams is worse then yours, bc if there’s no clash I’ll just go off my opinion.
Topicality
V
For K Aff: Tbh I don’t like the “we can’t engage” argument as a part of T, I would much rather you use T as a turn against the Aff. This is especially great if you use it as a solvency deficit to the Aff.
For Policy: Tbh against Policy I love T, since they are “trying” to be topical I think it’s fun to have a definitions debate and I’m down for it. I like additional impacts other than Clash, and Education. For some ideas try Educational Access, Civic Duty, Community, and other fun stuff. Just be careful on T bc there is a lot that can go wrong so be sure not to drop anything!
SILLY ARGUMENTS
I ❤️ SILLY / UNIQUE ARGUMENTS

Public Forum Debate
I did PFD since Freshman year and qualified in it for NCFL my sophomore year.
Some quick thoughts,
I think the role of each side is to convince me of one thing, Yes or No. Nothing else.
I DO NOT think that the Pro defending one plan means that the Con gets every other alternative.
IF YOUR OPPONENT ASKS FOR YOUR SPEECH YOU SEND IT, idc if it’s not a “rule” if you want my ballot it is
If you say "They dropped the 1ac" in your second Pro speech I will dock you 2 speaker points for not knowing how PFD works
If you read critical lit in PFD thats hype asf.
