I competed in PF, LD and Policy in high school, and have been judging sporadically for the last 19 years. I don't have any particular argument preference and am most looking for thorough warrants and clash through the round. Final speeches should include clear voting issues. Speed is fine. Please use tag lines instead of citations when extending arguments. This is my first time judging this school year, so please don't assume familiarity with the literature.

I am a debate coach for the University of Puget Sound where I competed in Policy Debate for four years. I also did two years of LD in High School so I have some familiarity with that style of debate as well. I was a K debater but will evaluate any style of debate that is put in front of me, and do not have any qualms with any sort of argument. I am fine with speed and I like performative arguments. If you are going for Framework or Topicality I need to see good impact calculus to be persuaded, but this is true of any argument you may go for. It is very important to me that debaters are respectful towards each other and to anyone else in the room, including myself. I am willing to vote a team down if something they do in round is isolated by another team as problematic and impacted out. I think what you do in a debate round is just as important as the argument you have prepared prior to the debate. That being said, have fun, be nice to each other, and debate well and all we will have a good time :).

Hello Hello!
I did PF for three years in HS and have judged LD regularly for the past couple years. Ideally, I would love to listen to your fancy shmancy K's, topicality, theory etc. but I'm gonna be honest, it'll probably go over my head. If you can dumb it down enough for me to thoroughly understand it, then I'll vote you up. Please just don't rely on that that if you want to go for it. I don't care about speed - spread as fast as you like. Just make sure you slow down for tags!!!! If I don't catch/hear your main points, I will be lost and you'll be wasting your time.

I'm looking forward to being your judge!
My name is Sidney and I use they/them and she/her pronouns. I participated in high school debate between 2016 and 2019 and competed in Policy, LD, and Public Forum. I appreciate all debate styles, so feel free to hit me with some speed as long as your taglines are clear.
Here are a few things you can do to win me over as a judge:
- Tell me how to judge the round. I like a good framework debate.
- I'll judge off the flow. Be explicit if your point is a direct clash with your opponents so I can flow it in the right place.
- Give me voting issues at the end, and tie them into your criterion and/or value. I won't consider voting issues if the argument was dropped in an earlier rebuttal.
- Please don't shake my hand. I don't like germs.
I'll disclose if the tournament allows it and both teams consent.
See you soon!
Sidney
